About the Project

Company Nuclear Medicine Centre Ltd was established on September 15th, 2011 with an aim to realize the European Union co-funded project under the program “Entrepreneurship and innovations”, activity No. 2.1.1.3.1. “Development of Scientific infrastructure” second round of projects selection.

The founders of the company are education and scientific research institutions (e.g. Rīga Stradiņš University, Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis) and private companies (e.g. Riga nuclear medicine laboratory Ltd. etc.).

On September 19th, 2011 the Nuclear Medicine Centre Ltd. submitted a project application to the State Education Development Agency. The project got approval. On May 29th, 2012 the State Education Development Agency and Nuclear Medicine Centre Ltd. signed a contract No 2012/0012/2DP/2.1.1.3.1/11/APIA/VIAA/038 about co-funded project on “Founding a scientific research centre for development of radionuclide and positron emission tomography technology”.

The project aims to create a nuclear medicine research laboratory, which will provide research and commercial research services in three main areas:

  • development and approbation of  technology for positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for providing scientific services for entrepreneurs which organize clinical research projects; for health care  centres and other interested institutions and organizations

  • research of new drugs, new medical formulations and drugs delivery systems on laboratory  animals by using PET/CT technologies

  • development, synthesis and approbation of new radiopharmaceutical formulations (RPF), including development of short-life radionuclides and ligand molecule design, in laboratory animals  by using PET/CT technologies.

To ensure the declared objectives of the project “Founding a scientific research centre for development of radionuclide and positron emission tomography technology”, the company plans doing a number of activities.

The project implementation phase may be divided into the following stages:

  1. Preparatory stage – a topographical survey and engineer-geological research of the “object” territory, designing a project for demolition of the existing building and its demolishing, etc preparations for constructing the laboratory building.

  2. Designing the construction project for the Nuclear Medicine Centre laboratory’s building; constructing a new building, the territory’s landscaping and commissioning of the building.

  3. To order, to deliver and to teach personnel skills of using equipment such as the tools for production and synthesis of radiopharmaceutical formulations (RPF), the tools for quality control and radiation monitoring of the cyclotrons and formulations.

  4. To order, to deliver, to set up and to train stuff to use other research tools and equipment.

  5. Furniture and laboratory equipment purchase and equipping workplaces.

  6. Start-up of the Nuclear Medicine Laboratory at full capacity.
