IAEA visit to Riga
August 29-30th, 2013 the head of the International Atomic Enervy Agency’s (IAEA), Technical Cooperation department, European Section, 2nd Section Programm Management, Mr. Ivan Videnovic visited Riga.
On August 30th, 2013 the IAEA representative visisted the Nuclear Medicine Centre (NMC) Ltd. Marcis Slavinskis, the Director of the State Environmetal Service Radation Safety Centre, Vitalis Skrivelis, the Chairman of the NMC and Jazeps Malnačs, the Technical Director of the NMC joined met with the IAEA representative and discussed the project realization, its siginficane and the problems related. The discussions focused on the the NMC radiological equipment maintenance staff training needs and the IAEA’s possible assistance in organizing and providing this training.
The Chairman of the Board V.Skrīvelis informed about the current situation in the implementation of the project and the future prospects after the project implementation. The IAEA representative also visited the project realization site in Marupes Street 19, which is the construction site of the laboratory building.
The IAEA supported introduction of new radiation technologies in Latvia and he backed an idea about IAEA supporting and helping NMC with the equipment maintenance staff training in the leading European cyclotron centers.
The Parties agreed on the future cooperation foreseeing:
- fundraising and acquisition to ensure straff training;
- Setting priorities in related to the staff training;
- identifying potential candidates and submission of nominated staff applications to IAEA;
- Identification of potential training places.
